TAS Group Chairman Discusses Opportunities to Strengthen the Hajj and Umrah Economic Ecosystem with Deputy Minister

Jakarta — TAS Group Chairman Subhan Wajo met with Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, to discuss opportunities and challenges surrounding the development of Indonesia’s Hajj and Umrah economic ecosystem.

The meeting provided an opportunity to explore how the Hajj and Umrah sector can continue to develop not only from the perspective of pilgrimage services, but also through stronger integration across supporting industries that are directly connected to pilgrims’ journeys and needs.

During the meeting, Subhan Wajo shared his views on the dynamics of the industry and potential opportunities within the wider ecosystem, including the role of travel, aviation, transportation, and other supporting services involved in serving Indonesian pilgrims.

“I shared my views on the opportunities and challenges within the Hajj and Umrah economic ecosystem, including how different sectors can become more connected to create broader value for pilgrims and industry stakeholders,” said Subhan Wajo.

One of the topics discussed was air connectivity for Indonesian Umrah pilgrims. In this context, Subhan also highlighted the potential of Black Stone Airliner as one of the carrier options that could support Umrah travel from Indonesia.

Air connectivity remains an important component of the wider Hajj and Umrah ecosystem, given its role in connecting Indonesian pilgrims with destinations in Saudi Arabia. Expanding connectivity and exploring new aviation partnerships could also create opportunities for closer collaboration between airlines, travel companies, pilgrimage service providers, and other stakeholders.

According to Subhan, developing the Hajj and Umrah economic ecosystem requires a more integrated approach. The economic potential generated by the movement of pilgrims needs to be supported by stronger connections between sectors, relevant services, and collaboration among industry players.

The discussion is also aligned with the government’s broader direction for the Hajj ecosystem, which includes an economic dimension alongside the success of the pilgrimage itself and broader civilizational and humanitarian objectives. Government statements have identified the development of the Hajj economic ecosystem as one of the key directions in strengthening Indonesia’s Hajj ecosystem.

For TAS Group, the continued development of the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem presents opportunities for cross-sector collaboration. With business activities spanning several sectors, TAS Group sees potential in connecting capabilities and services that can contribute to a more integrated pilgrimage journey.

The meeting also forms part of TAS Group’s continued engagement with strategic stakeholders across the Hajj and Umrah industry. Dialogue between government institutions and the private sector remains important in understanding industry needs, identifying opportunities, and exploring potential areas of collaboration.

Subhan noted that opportunities within the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem extend across multiple parts of the value chain. The journey of pilgrims involves a range of interconnected services, making collaboration among industry stakeholders an important element in developing a sustainable ecosystem.

“The ecosystem is very broad. There are many opportunities that can be developed, but there are also challenges that need to be addressed together through collaboration and stronger connectivity among stakeholders,” Subhan added.

Through the meeting, TAS Group continues to explore potential opportunities for collaboration within the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem, while keeping the needs and experience of pilgrims at the center of service development.

For TAS Group, strengthening the Hajj and Umrah economic ecosystem requires the involvement of multiple stakeholders. Government institutions, travel companies, aviation providers, service operators, and other supporting industries each have a role to play in building a more connected ecosystem and creating broader value for Indonesia.
